Almost. Gabaldon has confirmed that Book 10 will be the final novel in the main series. As of 2026, Book 10 has no release date. Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone (2021) is the most recent main-series novel — published after a 7-year gap since Book 8.
Lord John Grey is a supporting character from the main series who got his own spinoff. These can be read alongside the main series but are best started after Book 2 (Dragonfly in Amber), when Lord John becomes significant. They are not required to enjoy the main series:
In 1945, Claire Randall — a British combat nurse — is visiting the Scottish Highlands with her husband when she touches an ancient standing stone and is transported back in time to 1743. She encounters Jamie Fraser, a young Scottish warrior, and her life in two centuries becomes intertwined with the Jacobite Rising and its aftermath.
The series blends historical fiction, romance, adventure, and time travel in a way that defies easy categorisation. The romance between Claire and Jamie is one of the most beloved in fiction. The history is meticulously researched. The books get darker and more complex as the series progresses.
