SpinToRead (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates spintoread.com. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have. By using this site you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who We Are

SpinToRead is an independent book discovery site operated by Ruben Montané. The site provides book recommendations, reading order guides, author guides, and related editorial content. We do not sell products directly; we earn revenue through advertising and affiliate commissions.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect data in two ways: automatically when you visit the site, and voluntarily if you contact us.

Automatically collected

• Usage data — pages viewed, time on page, referral source, approximate geographic location (country/city), device type, browser, and operating system. Collected via Google Analytics.
• Advertising data — Google AdSense may collect data via cookies and similar technologies to serve, personalise, and measure advertisements. This may include browsing behaviour across sites that use Google services.
• Technical data — IP address (anonymised or truncated where applicable), HTTP headers, and basic server log data retained for security purposes.

What we do not collect

• We have no user accounts, so we do not collect names, email addresses, or passwords through normal site use.
• We do not collect payment information.
• We do not collect sensitive personal data (health, financial, biometric).

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We use the following categories:

• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics, _ga, _gid) — help us understand how visitors use the site. Session and persistent, up to 2 years.
• Advertising cookies (Google AdSense, DoubleClick) — used to serve relevant ads, measure ad performance, and limit how often you see the same ad. Duration varies.
• Functional cookies — small localStorage entries we use to remember in-browser preferences (e.g. book list, cover image cache). These remain on your device until you clear browser storage.

4. Google AdSense and Advertising

SpinToRead is a participant in Google AdSense. Google AdSense uses cookies and web beacons to deliver advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.

5. Affiliate Links (Amazon Associates)

SpinToRead is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. When you click an Amazon link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon may set its own cookies when you follow our links. Our recommendations are editorially independent. Affiliate relationships do not influence which books we recommend or how we rank them.

6. Third-Party Services

The following third parties may process data about your visit:

• Google Analytics — website analytics. Google Privacy Policy.
• Google AdSense / DoubleClick — advertising. Google Privacy Policy.
• Amazon Associates — affiliate programme. Amazon Privacy Notice.
• Open Library (Internet Archive) — book cover images fetched via their public API. No personal data is sent; requests are made from your browser. Internet Archive Terms.

• Vercel — hosting provider. Server logs (IP, request data) are processed by Vercel. Vercel Privacy Policy.

7. How We Use Data

• To understand how the site is used and improve content and navigation.
• To display advertisements that fund the site.
• To earn affiliate revenue when you purchase books via our links.
• To maintain site security and prevent abuse.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for any purpose not listed above.

8. Data Retention

• Google Analytics data — retained for 14 months by default, then automatically deleted from Google's servers.
• Server logs — retained by Vercel for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.
• Browser storage (localStorage) — data stored locally on your device (such as your book list or cover image cache) persists until you clear your browser storage. We have no server-side copy of this data.
• If you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence only as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry.

9. Your Rights (GDPR — EEA and UK Visitors)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under GDPR:

• Right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
• Right to restriction — you can ask us to restrict processing of your data.
• Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing.
• Right to data portability — you can request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

The legal bases for our processing are: legitimate interests (site analytics, security), consent (advertising cookies where consent is required), and contract performance (not applicable as we have no accounts).

10. Your Rights (CCPA — California Residents)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you the right to:

• Know what personal information is collected about you and how it is used.
• Know whether your personal information is sold or disclosed, and to whom.
• Opt out of the sale of your personal information. Note: SpinToRead does not sell personal information.
• Request deletion of your personal information.
• Not be discriminated against for exercising your CCPA rights.

11. Children's Privacy

SpinToRead is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. International Transfers

SpinToRead is operated from Spain. Data processed by Google (Analytics, AdSense) and Vercel may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Google and Vercel participate in appropriate transfer mechanisms (including Standard Contractual Clauses) to ensure such transfers comply with applicable data protection law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
